Why can't you eat this cheese on a bus?

Cheese is known for being a bit stinky. Especially when it smells of bad things like gone-off milk or sweaty feet.

But did you know, there’s a cheese that’s so smelly that it’s said the French have banned people from eating it on public transport? It’s known as Époisses de Bourgogne. (It’s basically called that because it’s made in the village of Époisses, in the area of France known as the Duchy of Burgundy.)

It’s not the whiffiest though. In 2004, an electronic nose was used to give another fromage, called Vieux Boulogne, the title of the World’s smelliest cheese.

Sadly, the law regarding eating Époisses de Bourgogne on public transport is a myth. However, you may find yourself unpopular if you begin scoffing some on the 0930 to the Gare du Nord.

What’s the smelliest cheese you’ve eaten?
